Here’s how we can assist you:
Compliance Assessment:
- Our core expertise lies in ensuring compliance with the New Zealand Building Code (NZBC) requirements related to fire protection.
- When you bring your building concept to us, we conduct a thorough review.
- If your project aligns with the Acceptable Solutions outlined in the NZBC documents (specifically C/AS1 or C/AS2), we will provide a fixed fee quote for preparing a Fire Report to be submitted for building consent.
Preliminary Assessment:
- We offer advice on the basic fire safety features required for your building.
- Our team ensures that your design incorporates essential fire safety measures from the outset.
Comprehensive Fire Report:
- Upon acceptance of our fee and receipt of all necessary design information, we prepare a detailed Fire Report.
- This report outlines the specific fire safety performance requirements tailored to your project.

Igniting Acceptable Solutions
For Your Project
We’re your fire safety partner, ensuring compliance and enhancing accessibility for a secure built environment.
Challenges Beyond Acceptable Solutions
Sometimes, a building’s occupancy type or usage may not fully comply with the Acceptable Solutions. In such cases, we:
- Identify limitations during our preliminary assessment.
- Recommend engaging a Professional Fire Engineer to explore alternative approaches, such as a Verification Method (VM) or an Alternative design.
Accessibility Reports
We also provide Accessibility Reports, which may be required as part of a building consent application. For existing buildings undergoing alterations or changes of use:
- For existing buildings undergoing alterations or changes of use, assessing accessibility is crucial.
- While achieving 100% compliance may not always be feasible, we ensure that accessibility is improved “As Near As is Reasonably Practicable” (ANARP) without imposing an unreasonable burden on building owners in terms of cost and sacrifice.
Kindling Safety and Compliance with AS Fire Design Limited
Discover why engaging us for fire design in building reports is critical. From life safety to property protection, we ensure adherence to regulations and ongoing validity. Trust our expertise for secure, compliant buildings.
Life Safety &
Property Protection
- Fire safety design ensures that buildings are resistant to fire and comply with regulations.
- It addresses life safety by providing safe evacuation routes for occupants during emergencies.
- It protects property by minimising fire damage and loss.
- Additionally, it ensures firefighters or other emergency services personnel can effectively undertake rescue and firefighting operations.
Compliance with
Building Codes
- Fire design reports demonstrate compliance with the New Zealand Building Code (NZBC).
- Whether using prescriptive codes (C/AS1 and C/AS2), verification methods (C/VM2), or alternative solutions, these reports ensure adherence to safety standards.
Building Consent Authorities
- BCA’s will require a Fire Design report (FDR) in order to process building consent applications.
- The FDR becomes an integral part of buildings ongoing maintenance and management documentation, providing a clear understanding of the base-built design intent applicable to its Use and Occupancy.
- Obtaining a FDR early in the design process will enable the Fire Safety precautions and performance requirements to be coordinated into other consultants documentation.
Ongoing Validity & Adaptability
- FDRs need periodic review, especially when there are changes in building use, occupancy or layout.
- Keeping your FDR valid ensures ongoing compliance and adaptability to building modifications.
